4 Y1 -03 - 0222 Rev. C SECTION 1 - W HA T IS A IS? 1. Overview AIS is an acronym for A utomatic I dentification S ystem . AIS increases navigational safety and collision avoidance b y tr ansmitting vessel i dentification, helping to reduce the d ifficulty of identif ying ships when not in sight (e.

The GNSS ant enna is p laced as far awa y as possib le f rom radar, Inmarsat and Irid ium transmitters . Also ensure that the GPS antenna is free from direct view of the rad ar an d t he Inm arsat beam.
