Chapter 1: Introduction The Wireless-G Notebook Adap ter: The CNet Smart Wireless-G CardBus Adapter in st alls in most notebooks and lets you put your computer almost anywhere in the bu ilding, without the cost and ha ssle of running network cables.
Chapter 2: Planning Your Wireless Network Netw ork Topolo gy: A wireless local area network (WLAN) i s exactly lik e a regular lo cal area network (LAN), except that each computer in the WLAN uses a wire less device to connect to the netwo rk.
Chapter 3: Getting to Know Your Wireless-G Notebook Adapter The Adapter’s LEDs: Power Green . The Power LED will light up wh en the Adapter is powered on. Link Green . The Link LED will light up and stays solid when the Adapter is inserted correctly and when a link is established with the netwo rk.
Chapter 4: Installing Driver , Configuration Utility and Hardware for Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP Driver Installation for Windo w s 98SE/ME/2000/XP: 1 . Before installing your adapter, there are two ways to install software. One is to insert the Driver CD into your CD-ROM driv er.
2 . The License Agreement screen appears next. Click on “ Ye s ”. 3 . In the Choose Destination Location page that follows, folder wher e the configuration utility will be stored can be selected by clicki ng the Browser button, or enter dire ctly the destination folder name you want, then click on “ Next> ”.
4 . The digit al Signature Not Found scree n will pop u p next to inform you the device has not passed Digital Signat ure testing. Please click on “ Continue Any w ay ” to proceed. If you use Windows XP/2000, please follow step 5. If you use Wi ndows 98SE/ME, please follow step 6.
6 . For Windows 98SE/ME, the following menu pop s up, Select “ Y es, I want to rest art my computer now ” and click “ Finish ” to complete the software installation process. Inserting the Adapter: T o insert the CN et Smart Wirel ess-G CardBu s Adapter into a Notebook, do the following: 1.
Turn on your notebook, Windows will automatically dete ct the Adapter. Please select “Install the software automatically” then click “Next>” when the following page pops up, For Windows 200.
For Windows 98SE/ME, System will restart..
Chapter 5: Using the WLAN Monitor for Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP Overview: WLAN Monitor is a utility used to check the link inform ation, search for available wirel ess networks, or create profiles that hold diff erent configuration setting s.
Wireless Information Connect to Network : Shows the Network’s name which you are connecte d . Network Type: Acce ss Point or Peer t o Peer. The screen indicates whethe r the Adapter is currently working in ad-hoc or infrastructure mo de. Channel: The channel to which the wireless network devices are set.
Available Net w orks: Selecting the Available Net w orks displays a list of infrastructure and ad-hoc networks available for connectio n. Here, in this page, we have Network Name: The SSID of the wirele ss netwo rks available for connection. Band: The band of the wireless sites available.
Here, in this page, we have Profile Name: Name of the connection profile. Network Name: The wireless network’s uniqu e name, as in the connectio n profil e. Site Information: Network: The mode of the wirel ess net work currently in use. Channel: The channel to which the wire less network device s are set.
Creating a New Profile: 1 . On the Profiles screen, click the “ Ne w ” button to create a new profile and the following scre en appears, enter a name for t he new profil e. Click “ Next ” to save the profile name and open up the next page filling in necessary in formation.
(B) Peer to Peer - This mode allows wireless-equippe d computers to communicate directly with each other. No access point is used. Transfer Rate: Select the speed you want to use in t he drop-down manual of the Tran sfer Rate 3 . The Profile Settings screen will appear now afte r filling in the information.
4 . The Profile Settings screen has drop-down menu t o sele ct the e ncryption type. If you enable encryption function, Select the encrypti on type and Authentication Mode. Click the “ Next ” but ton to continue or the “ Back ” button to return to the previous sc reen.
6 . The Profile Setting screen will app ear now. If your wireless device doesn’t use IP, please select “ Disable ” and press “ Complete ” to finish “Add a ne w profile ”. If your wirel ess device needs an IP address. Select “ Enable ” and go to Step 7 7 .
If your network does not have a DHCP se rver, click the radio button next to “ Specify the IP address ”. Then enter an IP Address , Subnet Mask , Default G ate w ay , and DNS appropriate setting s for your network. Enter each addre ss in this format: xxx.
