3 English Before Installation General • Be sure your hands are dry . • Turn the po wer of f to all components. • Read the manuals supplied with the components you are going to connect. Locations • Install the receiver in a location that is level and protected from moisture.
4 English Connecting the FM and AM (MW/L W) Antennas FM Antenna Connections Notes : • Make sure the antenna conductors do not touch any other terminals, connecting cords and power cord. This could cause poor reception. • If reception is poor , connect an outdoor single vinyl-covered wire to the AM EXT terminal.
5 English Connecting the Speakers Y ou can connect the follo wing speakers: • T wo sets of front speakers to produce normal stereo sound • One set of rear speakers to enjoy the surround ef fect .
6 English About the speaker impedance The required speaker impedance of the front speak ers differs depending on whether or not a center and/or rear speakers are connected at the same time. Since there are four possible speaker connections with the recei ver , check which one fits your case and use the speaker with the impedance described belo w .
7 English Connecting Other Components Y ou can connect the follo wing components to the receiver using ca bles with RCA pin plugs. Audio Components Video Components* • Turntable • VCR • CD playe.
8 English Notes: The preset setting such as preset channel and sound adjustment may be erased in the following cases: • When you press POWER to set it in the — OFF position. • When you unplug the power cord. • When a power failure occurs. CAUTIONS: • Do not touch the power cord with wet hands.
9 English Basic Operations The following operations are commonly used when you play any sound source. T urning the Power On and Off (Standby) On the front panel: T o turn on the power , press ST ANDBY/ON . The ST ANDBY lamp goes off. The name of the current source (or station frequency) appears on the display .
10 English Adjusting the V olume On the front panel: T o increase the volume, turn MASTER V OLUME clockwise. T o decrease the volume, turn it counterclockwise. When you turn MASTER V OLUME rapidly , the v olume le v el also changes rapidly . When you turn MASTER VOLUME slowly , the v olume le v el also changes slowly .
11 English Recording a Sour ce Y ou can record any source playing through the recei ver to a cassette deck connected to the T APE jacks and the VCR connected to the VCR jacks at the same time. While recording, you can listen to the selected sound source at whatever sound level you like, without af fecting the sound lev els of the recording.
12 English Adjusting the Front Speaker Output Balance If the sounds you hear from the front right and left speakers are unequal, you can adjust the speaker output balance. On the front panel only : 1. Pr ess SETTING so that the Control % % % % % / fi fi fi fi fi / @ @ @ @ @ / # # # # # buttons work for adjusting the balance.
13 English When the shut-off time comes The recei ver turns off automatically . T o check or change the time r emaining until the shut-off time 1. Press SETTING, if necessary , so that the Control % / fi / @ / # b uttons work for setting the Sleep T imer .
14 English One T ouch Operation This receiver can memorize the optimum sound settings for each playing source. About the One T ouch Operation JVC’ s One T ouch Operation function is used to assign and store differ ent sound settings for each diff erent playing source.
15 English Notes: • When you hold down Control @ / # in step 3, the frequency keeps changing until you press Control @ / # again or a station is tuned in. • When a station of sufficient signal strength is tuned in, the TUNED indicator lights up on the display .
16 English 5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 until you stor e all the stations you want. T o cancel a stor ed pr eset station Storing a new station on a used number erases the previously stored one.

19 English Searching for a Pr ogram by PTY Codes One of the advantages of the RDS service is that you can locate a particular kind of program from the preset channels by specifying the PTY codes. T o search f or a program using the PTY codes On the front panel: 1.
20 English From the r emote contr ol: Before starting the procedure below , make sure you ha ve selected FM station only using the remote control. If not, the following RDS operating buttons do not work for tuner operation. (Pressing TUNER/B AND acti vates the remote control for tuner operation.

22 English When an emergency broadcast (ALARM signal) is sent fr om an FM station: The receiver automatically tunes in the station except in the following cases: • When you are listening to non-RDS stations (all AM — MW/L W and some FM stations). • When the receiver is in standby mode.
23 English CAUTION: When the source alternates intermittently between the station tuned in by the EON function and the currently selected source, press EON to cancel the EON function. This is not a malfunction of the receiver . Receiving Radio Br oadcasts Notes: • EON data sent from some stations may not be compatible with this receiver .

26 English Activating the Sur r ound Sounds The built-in surround processor provides three groups of programs — JVC 3D-PHONIC mode, DAP (Digital Acoustic Processor) mode, and surround modes (Dolby Surround and JVC Theater Surround). Y ou cannot use the D AP mode and surround mode at the same time.
27 English Activating the Surr ound Sounds Note: The 3D-PHONIC mode is not used with other surround modes such as Dolby Surround, JVC Theater Surround and the DAP modes. When the 3D-PHONIC mode is turned on, the other surround mode, if used, will be turned off.

29 English Activating the Surr ound Sounds Using the DAP Modes Y ou can use fi ve D AP modes — “Dance Club, Liv e Club, Hall, Pavilion, and Headphones. ” These modes (e xcept “Headphones”) require the front speakers and the rear speakers, b ut do not require a center speaker to enlarge the sound f ield.

37 English COMPU LINK Remote Contr ol System The COMPU LINK remote control system allows you to operate JVC audio components through the remote sensor on the receiver .
38 English Operating Other Components Y ou can operate JVC audio and video components with this receiver’ s r emote control. T o operate these components with the remote control, first select a source with the source buttons on the remote control. Then, operate that source using the remote control.
