6 How the 1140 W orks Y our model 1140 uses the oscillometric method to detect your blood pr essur e . Befor e the cuff star ts inf lating, the de vice will establish a baseline cuff pr essure , whic h is equivalent to the air pr essure . T he measur ement of y our blood pr essur e is based on this baseline pressur e .
7 About Blood Pressure What is Blood Pressure? Blood pressur e is the pressur e ex er ted on the ar ter y tube while blood f lows through the ar teries. T he pr essure measur ed when the hear t contracts and sends blood out of the hear t is systolic (highest).
8 Blood Pressure Standard T he W orld Health Or ganization (WHO) has dev eloped a blood pr essur e standar d, accor ding to whic h ar eas of low- and high-risk blood pressur e ar e identified. T his standar d, ho wev er , is a gener al guideline and blood pr essur es var y between dif fer ent people , age groups, etc.
9 Blood Pressure Fluctuation Blood pressure fluctuates all the time! Y ou should not be o v erly wor ried if you encounter two or thr ee measurements at high lev els. Blood pr essur e chang es o ver the month and ev en throughout the day . It is also inf luenced by season and temperatur e .

14 Applying the Cuff 1. R emo v e all w atches , jewelr y , etc. prior to attaching the wrist monitor . Clothing sleev es should be rolled up and the cuf f should be wrapped on bar e skin for correct measur ements. 2. Apply cuff to left wrist with palm facing up as Fig .
15 Applying the Cuff If the cuff is not wrapped tight enough, the measurement values will be false . 5. T he measur ement values will be cor r ect ev en if you wrap the cuff ask ew . 6. If your physician has diagnosed you with poor cir culation on your left ar m, car efully place the cuff around your right wrist as shown in Fig .
16 Correct Measuring Posture 1. Place your elbo w on a tab le so that the cuf f is at the same lev el as your hear t as Fig . A. Note: Y our hear t is located slightly below your ar mpit. R elax your entir e bod y , especially the ar ea between your elbo w and fing ers.

19 Helpful T ips Her e are a fe w helpful tips to help you obtain mor e accurate r eadings: • Do not measure your b lood pr essur e immediately after consuming a lar g e meal. T o obtain mor e accur ate r eadings, please wait one hour befor e measuring.
20 Measurement Procedure 1. Place the cuf f on the wrist. Pr ess the POWER k ey . All digits will light up , checking the display functions. T he checking procedur e will complete after about 2 seconds. 2. After all symbols appear , the display will show a " 0 ".
21 Measurement Procedure Note 1: T his monitor automatically switches off appro ximately 3 minutes after last k ey operation. Note 2: T o interrupt the measurement, simply pr ess an y k ey . T he cuff will def late immediately after a k ey is pr essed.
22 Storing V alues in and Recalling V alues from Memory 1. T he Monitor has two Memor y Zones (1 and 2). Eac h zone can stor e up to 30 measurements . 2. T o stor e values , use the User - Switching or Time-Setting K ey " " t o select a Memor y Zone (1 or 2) to store the values in.

Once you r elease the k ey , the display will sho w a blinking number sho wing the year . 2. Chang e the year using the Memor y o r the R ecall K eys .
