OPERA TING THE DEVICE (continued) This de vice is intended for use in measuring b lood pressure and pulse rate in the adult population. 7 BEFORE T AKING A MEASUREMENT T o ensure a reliab le reading follo w these recommendations: 1. A void eating, drinking alcohol, smoking, e x ercising, and bathing for 30 minutes before taking a measurement. Rest for at least 15 minutes before taking the measurement.

11 IRREGULAR HEAR TBEA T SYMBOL () When the monitor detects an ir regular rh ythm tw o or more times during the measurement, the Ir regular Heartbeat Symbol ( ) will appear on the displa y with the measurement v alues.
HEAR TBEA T SYMBOL/HYPER TENSION INDICA T OR () T AKING A MEASUREMENT The Hear tbeat Symbol ( ) flashes on the displa y during the measurement. The Hear tbeat Symbol ( ) flashes at e v er y hear tbeat.
The American Hear t Association recommends the follo wing guideline for upper limit of nor mal for home b lood pressure readings: AHA Home Guideline for Upper Limit of Normal BP Systolic Blood Pressure 135 mmHg Diastolic Blood Pressure 85 mmHg This is a general guideline because b lood pressure depends on age and morbidity .
1. Press the indicator on the batter y co ver and slide the co ver of f in the direction of the ar ro w . 2. Install 4 “ AAA” size batteries so the + (positi v e) and – (negati ve) polarities match the polarities of the batter y compar tment as indicated.
BA TTER Y REPLACEMENT When the Lo w Batter y Indicator appears on the displa y screen, tur n the monitor of f and remo ve all the batteries. Replace with four ne w batteries at the same time. W ARNING If batter y fluid should get in y our e yes, immediatel y rinse with plenty of clean w ater .
16 Set the monitor to the cur rent date and time before taking a measurement for the f irst time. If the date and time are not set cor rectl y , the measurement v alues stored in the memor y and the a v erage v alues ma y not be cor rect.
SET TING THE DA TE AND TIME 2. SETTING THE YEAR The y ear can be set betw een 2008 and 2030. When the displa y reaches 2030, it will retur n to 2008. Press the Memor y button ( ) to adv ance by increments of one y ear . Press the Date/T ime Setting button ( ) to set the cur rent year .

RESETTING THE DA TE AND TIME T o adjust the date or time after it has been setup w hen y ou f irst use the unit. Star t with the monitor in the of f position. 1. Press and hold the Date/T ime Setting button ( ). The Medication Symbol ( ) No.1 and the cur rent setting ( on or oFF ) will appear on the displa y .
The Medication Reminder Alar m can be set to sound twice a da y to aler t the user to take a medication. The Medication Reminder Alar m can be set for either AM or PM aler ts. Onl y set the Medication Reminder Alar m after the date and time has been set.
2. SETTING ON OR OFF Press the Memor y button ( ) to select on. Press the Date/T ime Setting button ( ). The hour flashes on the displa y . NO TE: Press the Memor y button ( ) to alter nate betw een on or oFF . 3. SETTING THE HOUR The time is set using AM or PM.
4. SETTING THE MINUTE Press the Memor y button ( ) to adv ance by increments of one minute. Press the Date/T ime Setting button ( ) to set the minute. The Medication Symbol ( ) No.2 and the oFF setting appears on the displa y . 5. SETTING THE MEDICA TION REMINDER ALARM 2 Repeat steps from 2 to 4 to set the Medication Reminder Alar m 2.
6. T O TURN THE MONITOR OFF If the date and time are cor rect, press the ST AR T/ST OP b utton to tur n the monitor of f. T o change the date and time refer to “Resetting the Date and T ime” on page 19.

27 APPL YING THE ARM CUFF APPL YING THE CUFF ON THE RIGHT ARM When taking a measurement using the right ar m use this instr uction for Step 3 on page 26. Appl y the cuf f to your right upper arm so the blue ar ro w and the air tube r uns along the inside of y our elbo w .
1. Sit in a chair with y our feet flat on the floor . Place your left arm on a tab le so the cuf f is le vel with y our hear t. 2. Press the ST AR T/ST OP button. All symbols appear on the displa y . The cuf f star ts to inflate automaticall y . As the cuf f inflates, the monitor automaticall y deter mines y our ideal inflation lev el.
3. When the measurement is complete, the ar m cuf f completel y deflates. Y our b lood pressure and pulse rate are displa yed. 4. Press the ST AR T/ST OP button to tur n the monitor of f. NO TE: The monitor will automaticall y tur n of f after tw o minutes.
USING THE GUEST MODE The monitor is designed to take measurements and store the measurement v alues in the memor y for one person. The monitor can also be used to take a single measurement for other persons using the GUEST Mode. Measurements taken using the Guest Mode are not stored in the memor y .
Ev er y time y ou complete a measurement the monitor stores the blood pressure and pulse rate in the memor y . The monitor automaticall y stores up to 84 sets of measurement v alues (b lood pressure and pulse rate). When 84 sets of measurement values are stored , the oldest record is deleted to sa ve the most recent v alues.
2. Press the Memor y button ( ) to displa y the most recent set of measurement v alues on the screen. The v alues are displa yed from the most recent to the oldest. NO TE: The date and time are alter natel y displa y ed with the measurement v alues. Press the Memor y button ( ) to displa y the next set of v alues.
T O DELETE ALL V ALUES STORED IN THE MEMOR Y Y ou cannot par tiall y delete values stored in the memory . 1. Press the Memor y button ( ) to tur n the monitor on. 2. Press the Memor y button ( ) again. While holding it do wn, press the ST AR T/ST OP button to gether for more than 5 seconds.
