8 Supplied Acc essories Make sure you have the following accessories. * A Lithium Coin Battery CR2025 i s loaded on the remo te control at the factory. * In catalogs and on packaging, the letter at the end of the product name indicates the color . Specifications and operations are the same regardless of color.
9 Using the DS-A5 With the Onkyo DS-A5, you can easily play the music stored on your Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad through your Onkyo amp or AV receiver and enjoy great sound, and watch iPod/iPhone/iPad slideshows and videos on your TV. With the supplied re mote controller, you can control your iPod/iPhone/iPad from the comfort of your sofa.
10 AirPlay, the AirPlay logo, iPad, iPhone, iPo d, iPod classic, iPod nano, iPod shuffle, and iPod touch are trademarks of Apple Inc., registere d in the U.
11 a Remote control sensor Receives control signals from the remote controller. b STATUS LED Lights up/blinks depending on the status of your DS-A5. See page 29 for details. c Dock connector Connects to your iPod/iPhone/iPad. d Wireless antenna This is the antenna for tr ansmitting and receiving wireless signals.
12 f ETHERNET port This is the port for connecting to netw ork. You can connect this to a router or a hub. g AUDIO OUT L/R jacks These are the analog audio output jac ks. h VIDEO OUT jack This is the analog video output jack. i u jack This is the jack for linked operation with Onkyo amp or AV r eceiver equipped with u jack.
13 You can use the following buttons to control your iPod/iPhone/iPad. a 8 button Sets the DS-A5 to on or standby. b MENU button Returns to the previous menu. c q / w and ENTER buttons These butt ons navigate through t he menus. d 7 button Selects the beginni ng of the current song.
14 Some of the iPod/iPhone/ iPad functions that you can control with this remote co ntroller can also be controlled wi th the remote controller that cam e with your amp or AV receiver. Refer to the instruction manual that ca m e w i t h y o u r a m p o r A V receiver for details.
15 Point the supplie d remote controller t oward the DS-A5’s remote contro l sensor, as shown. . Note • The remote controller may not work reliably if the DS-A5 is subjected to bright light, such as direct sunlight or inverter-t ype fluore scent lights.
16 The supplied remote controller uses a CR2025 type battery. Always use with the same type. Note • If the remote controller doesn’t work reliably, try replaci ng the battery. • If you intend not to use the remote cont roller for a long time, remove the b attery to prevent damage from leakage or corrosion.

18 Note • Do not place the DS-A5 on top of a component that gets warm or one with has air vents on top, as it may interfere with that component’s cool ing or cause the component or DS -A5 to overheat. Place it next to the component, use an audio rack, etc.
19 Follow either of the proc edures below to perfor m your network connection. Wireless connection ■ Using Wi-Fi Network Login Sharing Note • To use this function, iOS version 5 or greater is required on the following devi ces.
20 Wired connection (Ethernet cable) 4 Press the Accept button after a confir mation screen appear s on your iOS device. LED blinks in blue. Wireless settings of the DS-A5 are set to the same as that of iOS device. This allows connecting to the same access point.
21 Wireless connection ■ Using Access Point Mode 1 Confirm that LED lights up in green. LED lighting in blue indicates that connecti on to network has be en completed. Note • If Ethernet cable is being connected to the DS-A5, pull t he Ethernet cab le out after tu rning the power of DS-A5 off, and turn the power on again and make the settings.
22 The WEB settings allow you to confirm in formation of the DS-A5, to chan ge name, to configur e network and to update firmwa re. W E B s e t t i n g s m e n u c a n b e displayed by the following procedure (example of Safari 5.1). Note • The WEB settings can be made while LED of the DS-A5 lights up in blue.
23 Follow the procedure below to play back. The DS-A 5 goes into standby stat us automatically, if it is not played back for lo nger than 20 minute s. When iPod/iPhone/iPad is connect ed, it goes into charge mode. When connec tion to networ k has been comple ted, DS-A5 goes into Network ready status.
24 You can use the following systems b y connecting the DS-A5 and Onk yo amp or AV rece iver equipped with u jack by an u cable and an analog a udio cable. ■ System On W h e n y o u t u r n o n y o u r a m p o r A V r e c e i v e r , t h e D S - A 5 turns on automatica lly.
25 ■ Other Remote Contro ller Operations You can use the remote con troller that came with your amp or AV receiver to control basic iPod/iPhone/iPad functions. The available functionality depends on your amp or AV receiver. See the instruction manual th at c am e w ith yo ur a mp or AV receiver for details.
26 Follow the procedure be low to update the firmware of DS-A5. Note • Don’t unplug the cables or turn the power off during the update process. • The program and accompanying online documentation are furnished to you for use a t your own risk.
27 You can restore the DS-A5 to default settings. Perform this when the need s to restore the DS-A5’s name, volume value and network settings arise. No Sound or Video • Make sure your iPod/iPh one/iPad is connected properly. • If there’s no video, make sure your iPod/iPhone/iPad supports TV out.
28 Remote Controller doesn’t work • Make sure your iPod/iPhone/iPad is seated properly on the dock connector. If your iPod/iPhone/iPad is in a case, it may not con nect properly, so always remove the case before inserting your iPod/iPhone/iPad int o the DS-A 5.
