4 P o wer and Sound Contr ols BASS/F AD BAL/F ADER BASS/F AD BAL/F ADER P ower If the vehicle is not running yet, turn the ke y in the ignition until the accessor y indicator lights . Press [PWR] to s witch on the power . Changing A udio Modes Press this knob [SEL] to change the audio mode as f ollows.
5 F ader Press the knob to select the F ADER mode and then tur n it clockwise or countercloc kwise to shift the sound volume to the front or rear speakers . S•HDB (Super High Definition Bass) (Only f or CQ-4500U) This f eatare enhances bass definition.
6 Radio Basics Mode Selection Press [MODE] to change the operation mode as f ollows. Radio a Cassette a CD Changer (when connected) cd Press and hold [MODE] f or more than 2 seconds. (A UX is only for CQ-4500U) AU X T o change to the tuner mode In case of CD changer mode or T ape mode, press [MODE] .
7 Station Preset FM1, FM2, and AM can sav e maximum 6 stations each in their preset station memories. Manual Station Preset Press [B AND] to select a desired band. Use manual or seek tuning to find a station to be stored in the preset memory .
8 Radio Basics (continued) T uning in a W eather Band Station Press any of the b uttons [1] to [6] to monitor the preset station. W eather Band Stations National W eather Radio Broadcasts from ov er 380 locations throughout the U .S. on se ven VHF/FM frequencies.
9 Cassette T ape Pla y er Basics Pla ying a Cassette Inser t the cassette with the e xposed tape side facing to the right. Pla y will star t automatically . Rewind and F ast Forwar d Press [ i i ] (REW) or [ j j ] (FF) to rewind or f ast forward the tape .
10 Cassette T ape Pla y er Basics (continued) T ape Eject Press [ u ] to eject the tape, and the pre vious mode of operation will be resumed. Notes: Alwa ys remove the cassette tape from the unit when the cassette tape pla yer is not being used. If power is s witched off before [ u ] is pressed, the cassette will not be ejected.
11 TPS Operation (T ape Program Sear ch) Press [3 TPS] to activate the tape program search mode . T o select a desired program, press [ i i ] or [ j j ] corresponding times to go backw ard (up to 8) or forward (up to 9). (Rewind:) (F ast forw ard:) 80 19 cc Ex1.
12 Cassette T ape Pla y er Basics (continued) Repeat Pla y Press [4 REP] to repeat the current program. Press [4 REP] again to cancel. Blank Skip Press [5 SKP] to skip unrecorded por tions on the tape. Press [5 SKP] again to cancel. Notes: When repeat is on, the blank skip does not work because the repeat has prior ity o ver the blank skip .
13 CD Chang er Basics T o Star t the CD Changer Once the CD changer has been connected, press [MODE] to change to the CD changer mode . When a disc magazine is inser ted, CD pla y star ts automatically . Selecting a Disc Press [1] ( i DISC) or [2] (DISC j ) to select a disc in descending or ascending order .
0000 E 3 E 1 E 2 14 Repeat a T rack Press [5] (RPT : REPEA T) to repeat the current selection. "REPEA T" indicator lights. Press [5] (RPT: REPEA T) again to cancel. Random Selection Press [6] (RDM: RANDOM). All the availab le tracks on all discs in the magazine will be pla yed in a r andom sequence.
15 Cloc k Basics (The c lock system is 12-hour s.) Initial Time Press and hold [CLK] to set time display . "AM 12:00" blinks, and the time setting mode is activated. Press [ i i ] to set the hour . Press [ j j ] to set the minute. (Hold [ i i ] or [ j j ] to change numbers rapidly .
16 Alarm Time Setting Press and hold [ALM] to set alarm time Display blinks , and the alarm time setting mode is activated. Press [ i i ] to set the hour . Press [ j j ] to set the minutes. (Hold [ i i ] or [ j j ] to change numbers rapidly .) When you ha ve set the alarm time, release [ALM] .
BASS/F AD BAL/F ADER 17 T emperature Reading (Only f or CQ-4500U) T o read the temperatare outside the vehicle , press and hold the knob [SEL] for more than 2 seconds. The current temperature in F ahrenheit is display ed on the display . Press and release the knob [SEL] to shift the temperature displa y to the current operating mode.
18 BASS/F AD BAL/F ADER l k In Case of Malfunction Reset Switch If the unit does not respond when the function buttons are pressed, press the reset switch with a small pointed object, such as a pencil point. This will restore the unit to its def ault settings.

20 ❏ Required T ools Y ou'll need a scre wdr iv er , a 1.5 volt AA battery and the f ollowing: 12 V DC ELECTRICAL SIDE-CUT TEST BULB T APE PLIERS ❏ Dashboard Specifications ❏ Identify All Leads The first step in installation is to identify all the vehicle wires y ou'll use when hooking up your sound system.
21 Installation Guide (continued) A handy wa y to identify the speaker leads and the speaker the y connect with is to test the leads using a 1.5 volt AA battery as follo ws. Hold one lead against one pole of the battery and stroke the other lead across the other pole .
22 Battery Connect the yello w batter y lead to the correct radio wire or to the battery fuse por t on the fuse bloc k. Antenna Connect the antenna by plugging the antenna lead into the antenna receptacle. Equipment Connect any optional equipment such as amplifier , according to the instructions fur nished with the equipment.
