DESCRIPTION The Shure Model SCM410/E is a four-cha nnel automatic microphone mixer for use i n sound reinforcement, audio recordi ng, and broadcast applications. The SCM410 dramatically improves audio q uality in any application wh ere multiple microphones are required.
REAR PANEL Power Connector: Unit is energized when the power cord i s plugged into a 100-120 V ac (SCM410) or 220-240 V ac (SCM410E) power s ource. NOTE: There is no power On/Of f switch on this mixe r. DIP Switch: The 4-position DIP switch provides additional func- tions.
INSTALLATION SUPPLIED HARDWARE • 4 rubber feet • 1 rackmount bracket, long • 1 rackmount bracket, short • 2 straddle brackets • 10 bracket screws, 6 mm (1/4 in.) • 4 rackmount screws, 2.54 cm (1 in.) • 4 plastic washers • 4 wood screws, 1.
TABLE-TOP MOUNTING Adhere the fo ur (4) supplied rubber feet to the bottom of the mixer at each corner. This will keep it from sliding and protect the table surfac e. FIXED MOUNTING TOP MOUNT 1. Fasten the straddle bracket s to the recessed edges of the chas- sis, using four (4) br acket screws.
SCM410 CONNECTIONS 1. Connect microphone signal sources to the Channel Input connec- tors. Use conventional 2-con ductor shielded audio cables. 2. If any condenser microphones are connected, set the +12V phantom power DIP switch to ON. 3. Connect the SCM410 Mic/Line Level Output to the input of mixers, EQs, amplifiers or recorders.
BASIC MIXER OPERATION 1. Adjust each channel level so that it s Overload LED flickers only during very loud speech or noi se. 2. Adjust t he Low-Cut and High-Frequency contro ls adjacent to each Input Gain control so th at the microphones sound similar .
SPECIFICATIONS Measurement Condi tions (unless otherwise specifi ed): Line voltage 120 Vac, 60 Hz (SCM410) or 2 30 Vac, 50 Hz (SCM410E); full gai n; 1 kHz, one channel activat ed; source impedances:.
ADVANCED FUNCTIONS LOGIC CONNECTION SPECIFICATIONS The SCM410 logic f unctions expand the range of installation and con- trol options. Logic can be used for everything from simple cough switches to elaborate comp uter-controlled room systems. (Shu re's AM S Update publication co ntains additi onal applicati ons of advanced logic.
SUGGESTED LOGIC APPLICATIONS This section contain s suggestions o n the uses of the SCM410's log ic capabilities. Note that us es of these functions are not limited to the listed applications . The user is limite d only by imagina tion and creat ivity.
INHIBITING GATING FOR UNWANTED SOUNDS MaxBus attempts to activate o nly one microphone per sound source. Muting a microphone channel prevents its audio from appearing at the mixer's output. However, the muted m icrophone still communicates w ith other mic channels via MaxBus.
INHIBIT FUNCTION For information on th e inhibit function, refer to the Internal Modi fica- tions section. REMOTE VOLUME CONTROL The level of the Aux or Master output can be controlled from an exter- nal VCA (Volta ge Controlled A mplifier) such as th e RU-VCA1 fr om Radio Design Labs (Tel.
INTERNAL MODIFICATIONS • Only make changes to jumpers (X) and resistors (R). The circuit board contains holes where resistors ar e to be added. • For Channel modifications, the first c haracter of the reference desig- nator indicates the channel number,(i.
CHANGING THE LIMITER THRESHOLD T o change the limiter threshold fro m the preset value of +16 dBu, modify the c ircuitry according to the following table. CHANGING HOLD TIME To change the ho ld time from th e preset value o f 0.4 seconds, modif y the circuitry according to the following table .
CHANGING OVERRIDE IN TO MUTE IN (FILIBU STER MODE) This modification should only be performed with the Change MUTE IN to Inhibit modification described above. This is only necessary if the Mute function is desired a long with Filibuster Mode. Procedure: 1.
