Description of the unit 11 Description of the unit Scope of delivery Please ensure that all of the accessory pa rts in the following list are present: • Radio with MP3/WMA CD player , USB and SD/MMC.
Preparing the unit for operation 12 Prep aring the unit for operation Y ou can conn ect the unit to the norma l power supply (230 V ~ / 50 Hz). The heat generated during operation must be dissipat ed through adequate air circul at ion. Therefore the unit should not be covered or inserted in an e nclosed cabinet.
Preparing the unit for operation 13 Connecting the power cable Î Insert the mains plug into the AC~ connection (27) and the power socket. Note: Remove the plug from the socket when you are n ot using the unit. When doing this, pull on the plug it self and not on the cable.
Using general function s on the unit 14 Using general functions on the unit Switching on the unit Switch on the unit using the FUNCTION switch (20); the POWER LED (5) illuminates. Setting the source Î Set the FUNCTION swit ch (20) to USB/CARD, CD/MP3/AUX or RADIO.
Operating the CD player 15 Operating the CD player General information concerning CDs/MP3 CDs This unit is suit able for playing music CDs that are recorded with audio dat a (CD-DA or MP3 for CD-R and CD-RW). MP3 format s must be produced to ISO 9660 Level 1 or Level 2.
Operating the CD player 16 Comp atible discs The CD player is compatible with CD, CD-R/R W and MP3/WMA CD media. This unit can pla y all of the discs mentioned here without an adapte r . Do not play any other media, such as DVDs, etc. Disc size: 12 cm/8 cm CDs Playing time: 74 min.
Operating the CD player 17 Removing discs Î T o remove the CD first stop playback by pre ssing the STOP button ( 1 1), open the CD compartment (7) and then remove the CD by holding it at the edges. Playing a disc If the CD has been inserted inco rrectly or if the CD is flawed, “NO DISC” appears in the display (17).
Operating the CD player 18 Setting MP3/WMA album and tracks Î T o set MP3/WMA albums, press and hold down +10/ALBUM (13). The al bum number (40) flashes in the display (17). Î Select the album with I WW (2) or XX I (3) and confirm with the +10/ALBUM button (13); hold down the +10/ALBUM button (13); the track number (41) flashes.
Operating the CD player 19 Ending the repeat function Î Keep pressing the MODE button (8) on the unit until the repeat indicator no long er appears. If playback is not stopped, the disc will continue to play to the end without repeating. Using the random generator Y ou can play the tracks on a CD in a mixed order by using the random generator .
Operating the CD player 20 Using the programming function Y ou can use the programming function to play up to 20 tracks from a music CD or 99 tracks from a MP3/WMA CD in a sequence that you sp ecify . With MP3/WMA CDs, always programme the album first and then the trac k.
Using the USB function 21 Using the USB function Note: The memory capa city of the USB device is not limited. Due to the wide variety of MP3 Flash Players, USB storage media and USB HDD drives available, it cannot be guaranteed that every model will be supported.
Using the SD/MMC function 22 Using the SD/MMC function Inserting the storage medium Caution! If the memory card is inserted into the card slot the wrong way round, the card will not be recogni sed. The card itself or the dat a it contains may be damaged as a result.
Using the radio 23 Using the radio Note: The unit receives these frequen cies: FM 88–108 MHz and MW (AM) 540 –1600 KHz. Î T o activate the radio, set the FUNCTION switch (20) to RADIO. The LE D (5) illuminates. Î T o select the desired FM or MW frequen cy range, set the BAND switch (21) to FM ST .
Cleaning the unit 24 Cleaning the unit Electric shock! In order to avoid the risk of electri c shock do not clean the unit using a wet cloth or running wat er . Remove the mains plug before cleanin g. CAUTION! Do not use any scrub sponges, clea ning powder and solvents such as alcohol or petrol.

T roubleshooting 27 Problems with the radio Symptom Possible cause/remedy No stations are being received. The unit is not set to the Radio mode. Set the “FUNCTION” switch to RADIO Other devices, e.g. a television, are interfering with reception. Move the Radio/CD player furt her away from these devices.
